11:16 am - Vastavam
Vastavam is a typical entertainer with lots of romance and high drama and emotion and exciting political dialogues.Decided to take the plunge after reading good reviews, sorry to say was not up to mark. The film was over packed and the editing was below average.Pritviraj looked solid and the roles enacted by salim kumar and jagathy was good. All in all an average movie!!

01:48 pm - Fish is good for you
You may have heard that fish contain mercury and other compounds called PCBs and dioxins that can be harmful physically. But Harvard University doctors say eating fish regularly is very healthy, especially for the heart."The benefits of eating fish are far greater than the potential risks. If you eat a fish and it has some mercury in it, you might be getting less benefit from that fish than if it did not have mercury in it, but the overall benefit is still positive,"

The Harvard team says that benefits are great even for women of childbearing age if they avoid certain fish that are likely to contain mercury levels dangerous to fetuses. The second study lists them as predatory fish with long lifespans, such as swordfish, shark, and tilefish. It is a good protein source containing the type of fat considered healthy for the heart. But some species absorb toxins present in the environment, causing confusion about the role of fish in a healthy diet.

Another group, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, warns that fish and shellfish are significant sources of cholesterol, a factor in heart disease. It points out that shellfish in particular have more cholesterol than an equivalent amount of beef.

"We found that a modest intake of fish, about one or two servings per week, was enough to reduce the risk of dying from a heart attack by about 35 percent, which is a considerable effect".

12:37 pm - Onam
Onam is just few weeks away and i am excited at the prospect of traveling to Trivandrum and celebrate it in Kerala after many a years.Onam as you may be aware is the most important festival celebrated in the state. It is celebrated by all Communities, but the basic concept is from a Hindu folklore. It is also the start of the Malayalam calendar "chingam" and the start of harvest and spring season. The festivities last for 10 days.

It goes that kerala was ruled by a King named Mahabali, who was very pious and kind. He defeated indra king of devas.Vishnu came in the form of vamana to help indra.Mahabali was performing a yagna and he promised to give what ever any person asks him.Vamana asked for 3 foot steps of land and mahabali agreed.vamana grew very tall one foot covered the sky, one foot covered the earth and there was nothing else to step on.
Mahabali offered vamana to keep his third foot in his head.Seeing his deviotion vishnu offered that Mahabali can come and see his land once in a year for 10 days, i.e. when onam is celebrated to welcome the king. The Mahabali is welcomed by laying of a flower rangoli called pookalam and a traditional feast follows. The feast includes the payasam a sweet dish and the feast is served on banyan leaf. This is time for festivals in major temples in kerala, which involves elephant parade and the boat races(vallamkali), kathakali dance etc.

During Onam the biggest annual sales happens, around 40-50% of the total sales in kerala happens during this time.Kerala has a big middle class population and it is during this time that government employees get bonus.People buy new dresses, electronic items, book cars, start new ventures, so on and so forth. So all the brands compete to get their pie.

This is the time when keralities residing in different parts of the globe travel to kerala. So lot of dollar and dinar flow into kerala economy and the banks vyie to get their share. Last year kerala beverages corporation sold around 100 crore worth of liquor during 10 day onam celebrations. It is the same time that television channel vie for the huge advertisement season, so they start the marketing months in advance. This time specialty is that the coke and pepsi one of the major giants may not be there to spend there advertisement budget in Kerala.

When the government is not having money to do relief work in flood hit costal areas and cash starved farmers in wynad, they find money to spend on celebrations in different parts of kerala. This is in line with the malayalam saying that "Kanam Vittu Onam Unnanam" which means "We should eat onam lunch even if we have to sell all our properties".

10:17 am - Rakshabandan and Kerala
Rakshabandan even not celebrated much in Kerala, i have fond memories of it during my school/college days. This happened during my 12th standard, i was studying in a college whose college union was run by SFI(the students wind of CPI(M)) and the only rakshabandan celebrations happening in trivandrum in those days used be in RSS sakhas. So if you want to know who are affiliated to RSS he/she would have a Rakhi in their hand.At that point of time there was a major clash between ABVP(RSS students wing) and SFI in our college and SFI known for their dictatorial stance would not allow anyone with Rakhi in their hand or even tilak in their forhead to enter the college, if you have to, it was at you peril.

That day one of my cousin was visiting us from north india and she had tied a rakhi on my hand. The nutty me found my way inside the college without the SFI goons seeing me and there i was showing off the my rakhi to my friends.I got a dress down from my friends for being so foolish and was ordered to remove the rakhi or go home.At that moment only could i grasp the gravity of the situation and had to rush back. After reaching home only i came to know how some of my classmates was beaten up for wearing rakhi to college and how lucky i was that day.

04:35 pm - All the best Israel
Israel way to go guys...
India if not match should at least wipe out the terrorist leaders in "hiding" in Pakistan

But it is sad to say this what our leaders are saying 

1)The ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh today virtually gave the outlawed Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) a clean chit saying it was not a "terrorist organization".

2) After the blasts National security advisor Narayanan hinted at the hand of Pakistan-backed militant outfits before the Cabinet, two ministers opposed it. They in turn blamed Hindus for the blasts. Their postulation was not supported by any sound reasoning.

04:05 pm - 911 Pentagon
The highly anticipated video showing the September 11th attack at the Pentagon is officially released Tuesday. But the video, showing American Airlines Flight 77 slamming into the Pentagon may or may not add more fuel to conspiracy theories about the crash.According to the government, the video released shows the plane smashing into the Pentagon, then there’s an explosion. Government officials say they hope the video will quiet concerns over a conspiracy theory , but i am not convinced.
